a touching moment in time

I am constantly reminded of magic moments in my life. You see I feel that life is precious and every moment of our lives here on earth must be cherished. Last summer I had the blessing to perform for the kids of the local hospice support. These kids had all lost a loved one recently and were dealing with the grief process. There was a young child there that really had fun. He played and participated in the show. He performed very well with enthusiasm. I did not know until after, that the young fellow had lost his mom to cancer and had not spoken since. The show had broken his silence. I heard from his councilor recently that he was doing well and had been able to adjust to his new life. That is the power of magic.
As we go through this world we have a responsibility to know that we touch people's lives daily. What impression will you make on someone? Share a little magic with each person. It will come back to you ten fold.

a time gone by

This blog is for things magical so I decided to make this post about a magical time. Was it that I was just young? No I don't think so. The time was that magical time of the 70's. What? The era that many people have debunked as a generation lost? well let me tell you the real story. Yes I was born in 1961 and technically I was a boomer kid. But a very interesting thing was going on around us back then. we watched the world change around us.

We have seen equal rights granted to most of the people in the united states, an African American became president when In my life time I remember segregation. We have seen men and women In space. I watched with my breath stilled as we waited to hear the words from the moon. Now My generation is preparing to go to mars. I watched protests and marches that demanded social change. I watched people riot to end the war in Viet Nam No matter what the outcome. we faced a plague that still kills millions each year. we changed the way the world communicates. The Boy In Africa can now be heard in new york. and the rest of the world is listening. Even today we are righting wrongs done to Native Americans and learning of the rich native culture.

Today we need direction. In those times we had a vision. a vision of a peaceful earth that respected each other. Now more than ever we need that goal. We did magic back then and didn't even know it.

I Know I have not posted in a long time. Thanks to all of you who supported me while I was recovering from the surgery on my leg. I am am Happy to report that I am back at work and am back to blogging etc.

This morning I find myself thinking about Independance and what it means in these tough economic times. While thoise who are having troubles find it hard to be optomystic, Now is the time that we see our country in action. During the great depression people could not get their money from the banks, Thousands of people in each community where going broke and becoming homeless. This time around the largest part of the disaster was headed off and we are holding on. This is the true test of our government. We are passing that test. Things will get better. It may take longer than we would like But they will get better. So this independance have fun and celebrate the country's birthday.
Now for more fun information. I have performed several publicity shows recently where we have given away a free birthday party show. Last month's winner was Arianna Benitez of Spotsylvania Va. Arianna Is hoping to have me perform for her In September. I also Recently performed a picinic magic show for the Hospice Support Center In Fredericksburg. It is always a gift to give a child a chance at seeing hope again even after the loss of a loved one. I also Performed at The childrens miracle network festsival In stafford Sponsored by the 6-3 Network. www.63network.com They are great folks and wonderfull business people.

I am Booked to perform My childrens show at The Helen Hayes Gallery on the Mezanine at The National Theater In Washington DC. Our Show will be on January 29th. This show will be announced on their site In August. www.nationaltheater.org I hope to travel next to Las Vegas In february for the World Magic Seminar. Plans are still Tentative. Other than that Have a great 4th of july and I promise to write again next week. Untill then Be safe and stop to see the magic sparkle on the water in late afternoon.

I am Reminded of my mother's favorite Holiday song "Silver Bells" In the song it tells of a certain magic in the air at Holiday Time. It seems as If everything picks up pace and there is a sense of electricity in the air. This is shaping up to be one of our Busiest seasons Yet!. we return to Capital One In Richmond, We have Parties from Ashburn to Dumfries to Fredericksburg and beyond.

Our Public performances have become a great success. we sold out the November show and the ticket sales for The December show are going along well. Get fresh Labs Is a wonderful host and The Otter House is helping to provide food service before and after. If you would like a place to have a birthday party this is it! a moment of magic

I am often asked to " make this or that disappear." I would like to share a real magic moment with you. some years ago I was lost in my own worries. I was somewhere in East Anglia UK and I was going through a lot in my life at the time. I was walking in the village to go shopping when I passed through an arched gateway into a park. As I walked through the arch it seemed as though the sun chose that exact moment to peak out from the clouds and illuminate the scene on the other side. There a young woman Guitar in hand with flowing golden hair was singing "Killing Me softly" near a park bench. Just as In the song she "sang as if she knew me." I lingered for a moment, dropped a few Quid In the guitar case, and walked on. Just a few moments later I turned to return and say thank you for the moment, she was gone. That Memory has been with me ever since. I Cary it in my back of thoughts that I keep for appropriate moments. I return there when I feel the weight of the world sitting on my shoulders and somehow I know everything will be OK.

We have been running full speed here! We performed several Fun shows. The first of note was the birthday party for Jackson. he turned 5 and his family celebrated at their family home in Fawn lake, spotsylvania va. Then it was off to be the celebrity host of the annual music by moon light concert in Fredericksburg. The perfect weather and great show led to a max capacity crowd for this annual fundraiser. Ashley and I traveled to Richmond to Cut an executive of captiol one in half in front of 900 of his employees. we got a realy good dvd from it and as soon as I can re-cut it to a more web friendly format I will post it.

Then I traveled to southern maryland and alexandria for shows as well.

The heat of the summer has been ever present the past few days But on the whole this has been a mild summer here. Magic is popping up every where we Turn. I have been to Saint Marys County for a magic party, Falls church for a graduation party and coming up very soon I will be at Sully Station In Manassas for a community show. In September I'm heading to Richmond To present a couple of Illusions for a corporate event.

we worked very hard to get a space to bring you live performances but it just did not work from a business standpoint. while I got a great deal I just could not sustain the Birthday party business in a fixed location with out Advertisers. So we are holding off and Building our capitol.

I have just added a new illusion. I know own a Visible sawing of some one in half. It Uses a Jigsaw and a pretty mean Blade. The Person is selected from the audience and placed on a table. A Guide is placed over the person and The saw is then plugged in and Using the guide is passed through the volunteers body. Wow what an Illusion. The cool thing is that I can perform this in some ones home.

I was bound to happen. Yes I had a realy off night saturday at the shriners. My material selection didnt work well with that group. The sound system screwed up and I was fighting a serious migraine. I still got good comments but it was certainly not my best show.
Today however I was on my game at a private school working for my favorite kind of audience. The best part of the show was Performing the Chair suspension Illusion for tis group. I had selected a young girl to help with thelast two routines before the illusion but there on the front row was a child that was dressed as a magician. as I selected the last child I could see his disappointment welling up in his eyes But I was ready with the big finish. I selected him for the chair suspension. When I called him up for the final bit of magic he was golden. I got him On to the prop and then he smiled for the audience. when I pulled the chair out and then the platform the audience went wild. what a great ending. the little magician josh was the hit of the day. Those are true magical moments.
After the trip to Chesapeake Va staurday and Getting stopped in hampton va traffic. we changed drivers in williamsburg for the trip home to fredericksburg va. This soming saturday I will be In Arlington for an adult birthday party. Then The magic club meets the first wednesday of august.

Mid month madness

This has been a crazy month for me! shows are popping up for me in places like northern virginia and Richmond VA. My new magic and Illusion show "it's a magical world" is a theatrical magic event. I am still doing tons of birthday parties in the Fredricksburg area. I love performing at childrens parties and other events. nothing canmale you feel better than to hear the kids go "wow!" I am hopefully days away from signing a lease on a perfomance space. This has been anearly six month journey that is coming to a close very soon.
Then we start Phase two getting ot actually able to open. I will be able to perform birthday parties and evening magic events there. next week I am heading for Cheasapeake VA to peroform for the Kedive temple of the Shriners In chesapeake VA On Monday. Then on wednesday I will be at Fredricksburg academy Summer camp. then On saturday I will be Performing at a surprise birthday party in arlington va.

I first of have to Thank The Byrd Family for Inviting me to share thier fourth of july celebration By doing magic at Their Aquia Landing Park Pic Nick. I am Booked In Northern Va This coming sunday for a childrens show where I will present The Chair suspension Illusion for a 5th Birthday party. Then It is off to Norfolk For The Kedive Temple's Father Son/daughter Dinner where I will present my world of Magic Show. This will be a fun evening of Magic and Illusion.
I have been booked again for the Crtozet Arts and Crafts Festival so i will be there for thier fall festival.

to all of you reading you know that I have been searching for a place to call home for my childrens show. I have been looking in fredericksburg and actually found a small space in fredericksburg To present my magic and Illusion show for families all over Virginia. But that place did not have the ready tomove in and be functionality that we here at www.michaeltaggertmagic.com Need inorder to bring our show to a permanant home.
well we have found that space In Spostylvania Viriginia. The WJ Vacos companies are Building a new downtoen area Near Spotsylvania court house. This will be a magical Place of downtown shops and enetertainments geared for the family environment. I will post more as we get nearer.
Untill then I am heading for richmond Norfolk, Virginia beach, and hampton VA this weekend for a series of shows.

Hello all,
wow what a week! after the birthday party Saturday (see previous Blog) we put up with more torrential rains. I was interviewed on Newstalk Radio WFVA Business link show. I had a fun time and taught a little magic to the interviewer and Ted Schobel The program host. I got to talk about my show and the International Brotherhood of Magic

On Thursday I performed at Greenville Elementary school In Nokesville VA. http://www.fcps1.org/education/school/school.php?sectionid=3007 I performed for their academic Fun festival at the occasion of the completion of the school's first year. what a Great Group of Kids. I did six back to back 30 minute shows with a 5 minute break between. Normally I would have taken an assistant just to make reset Easier but all of the Girls I normally use where not available. I survived the day running on the energy that These great kids were putting out. all together we had just under 600 kids plus teachers and volunteers watch the show.I hope to be back there next year.

Then I went to the Fredericksburg Area Chamber of Commerce Mixer Thursday night. I did some Magic and Met a bunch of the business people from the greater Fredericksburg Area. Then On Saturday it was off to Harrisonburg Va for a company picnic for Rosetta stone software company. What a show! First off I love performing for Top end clients. They are always fun to work with. This group was really fun because they are an International company so they had executives in from all over the world. One of the best challenges of the day was to perform for the parents of one of the executives that had just gotten in two days prior for their first visit ever to the US from Belgium. I muddled through Their broken English (I didn't even try German The closest language I could come to The Belgian languages.) I then Spoke in an International Language as I performed magic for them with out words. Then after Two Hours of walk around I Did a hour long stage show at The amphitheater Thethe Pick Nick was at. I was awesome performing looking at The west side of Massanutten as the clouds were drifting by. The sky that had been been over cast all day cleared and the sun came out just as the show started. That in and Of itself was magic. It was really a great time to see the guys who had been a little geeky get into the show and let loose a bit. as I drove home and was Coming near the mountain pass that would take me through Luray, Warrenton and then home The sky was still Black Up ahead but there at the edge of the storm ahead was a spectacular rainbow. This was the perfect wrapper on a great week.

I met a bunch of wonder full people This week I enjoyed doing what I love.

This past saturday I had a blast doing the show in a lovely garden. This beautifull home is the hoome of the birthday child's grandparents. We had a great little platform in the flowers inderthe trees. as you can tell from the pictures, I used my new backdrop and we performed the chair suspension. I will be at Greenville elemantary school next thursday then off to Harrisonburg VA. Enjoy the pictures they were taken by Mikala's dad on my camera.

I hardly know where the month has gone! May wizzed past and I have not even updated my blogs. I have a new version of my web page out so stop by and check out the new look. I went to Crozet VA and had a blast performing at the Crozet Art sand Crafts Festival. I met some wonderful people there. I will be performing at Greenville elementary school on the 11th and In Harrisonburg for Rosetta Stone Software on the 16th. I went on an out of town Bicycle ride a couple of weeks ago In Mathews VA for the tour de Chesapeake. I performed in the camp site and at the restaurant after the ride.

The new web site has taken up a lot of my time but it is certainly worth it. The new look will lead into my performance space in Downtown Fredericksburg. I will be performing a triple birthday party On the 27th in Richmond / Glen Allen area. Then Its off to MY 30th class Reunion in Norfolk Virginia. I have just sent 4 new reviews of new magic to "the linking ring" magazine where they Will be published over the next few months. I have also been asked to review a new illusion. Perhaps I will get to perform it as part of the review. We shall see on that one.

I am soliciting shows currently in the Stafford and Spotsylvania region of Virginia. If I can get them I'm looking for churches and Community centers to let me use their facility.

I am Riding my bicycle Sunday In Hanover Va where we will ride Past Scotchtown the home of the Patriot Patric Henry. Then Back to Gloucester for a bike ride and Hopefully some magic at the street festival.

I want to thank Those who came to Magi-whirl from all over the state. I have added a picture of a Mom and son who cam all the way from Stafford to Alexandria To see the show. I am Truly Honored.

A whirl of a weekend!

once again i was asked to chair my local magic clubs annual convention. this seems simple enough but you have to factor that my local club is International Brotherhood of magicians ring 50. Ring 50 is one of the more prestigious club in the us and we are always expected to be a cut above. Second we are the national Capitol's magic convention. to be in dc means you have to world class in everything you do. As usual our "little convention" had world class appeal.

Or featured performers where Bruce Kalver President of the Society of American Magicians, Joan Ceaser International president of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, Paul Green close up Magican of the year and Lecturer of the year for the American Academy of the Magical Arts (the Magic Castle) and star of television, screen and stage, AMA magician of the year and lecturer of the year Jeff MacBride. we had 145 magicians and 589 public attendees at the gala show that raised a little over $3000 for each of the two sponsoring organizations.

On Sunday I had the chance to attend special masters session with Jeff McBride where we explored the mystery of magic. one of my favorite subjects. We are already making plans for next year.
My magic theater is slowly coming together. the back drops and some of the props are now here. I stopped by the space earlier last week and we are still on track for an opening in October.
I am consulting with the graphics folks and the whole unified concept is coming along well.
I am off to the Crozet arts and crafts festival in a couple of weeks after a much needed break in the action.

Just a magical thought

Today the weather is nice and the sky is clear. This is the spring time that I love. This is when there is a true miracle happening all over the earth. For it is in the next few weeks that life will spring forth from the earth and our planet wakes up from its sleep. This is the time of renewal. It is in this time that hope is the greatest. We have just come through a long winter, that brought with it great potential for real change in or world. Now that the weather is softening and warming our hearts, we stretch our selves and begin the time of planting the seeds that will grown into our harvest.

On the road and Back again

It has been a busy Spring here at the magic studios. First off was the endless stream of Blue and gold Banquets this season.This is The top season so Far for us. we entertained well over 500 people at Various Locations. March And April Continues the Birthday party season with every weekend having a show booked. April also Brings about Magi-whirl 2009 April 18th www.magi-whirl.org
This is an exciting year as We are hosting Jeff MacBride and Paul Green two Top Notch magicians and Lecturers. The most Fun Is the Gala Magic show that we will be presenting. I am Once again the producer for this event. My company Provides the show management and The overall event management.
I have added another new routine to the show. In the magic world it is know as "The Thing" This is a fun routine that Is very powerful magic to boot.
This past Month I have performed all over the state from Mechanicsville to Dahlgren on the Northern Neck. I performed In Goochland, Short Pump, Manakin-Sabat, Fairfax Alexandria, Stafford and Quantico.
I am Booked In may at The Crozet arts and Crafts Festival In Crozet VA so If go there be sure to say HI! I will be selling My Magic kits There as Well.
I Also Have been asked to perform In Dallas TX we are trying to work out the details of a short notice show there. No Promises on that one.
All in all we are holding our own in the down economy. This is the Time when performers such as Myself really come to the surface as this is when people need us The most.

Take a moment yourself this week to see some magic. stop and really look at the stem of a bush that has started the process of waking up for spring. Look at how it is slowly animating itself and reveals itself to the world and There Know true magic.

spring time fun

Even In the cold months of February and January I start thinking about the on coming spring. I love the spring Air and it seems so magical to see life all around. This year I am trying to perform shows in Culpeper area as well as the Virginia northern neck. I am also looking for new venues in Irvington, Mathews and Kilmarnock. I am Performing several Blue and gold banquets That include My magic show. The places of the banquets will be as far reaching as Richmond Mechanicsville area, Caroline County, Westmoreland County, Fairfax, Springfield.I am Including my chair suspension Illusion in all my scouting shows this year.

Today we went to Gaithersburg MD to perform for a birthday party for a young man turning 5. we had lots of fun and magic.

Lots of fun at Birthday partys recently. We have been celebrating first birthdays left and right around here. First birthdays are special in the cultures that celebrate them. They are a chance to celebrate life for the whole family. This is the time when mom has recovered from the birth and the birthday child is moble. All of the reletives drop in with all the friends and their families. we sometimes forget just jow special these kinds of celebrations are. when you think about it each year brings about a chance for a rebirth of our selves. we clebrate this when our children celebrate.

More on the magic studio. Trey Cromwell and I toured the space the other day and are excited. Trey as always Pointed out a few fine details That I missed.when I went up the first couple of times. The design of the space will be a cross between "the secret garden and Jumange" in look and style. Kind of a professors reading room where the Kids come to hear stories from the dark continent and the near east. All sprinkled with magic of course. I will be presenting my levitation there so it will be a wonder filled time for all. Look for more details soon.

thank you all for your support this past holiday season. While we were out and about we premired several new rotuines that proved to be a hit. our season ended with Three standing room only shows at first night fredericksburg. Wesaw several old friends and Made many new ones.This year we will be marketing much more and will be opening our first Performamnce venue in down town fredericksburg. we are hoping for a latre may openingand will perform saturdays and sundays. especially during the tourist season.

We are all excited here as we get ready for one of our favorite shows of the year. This will be my 12Th appearance at First Night Fredericksburg. This family friendly new years celebration is the party of the year in Fredericksburg and the greater Rappahannock region. Folks come here from all over the northern neck, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Culpepper and the surrounding areas.

The eleves are in full swing as we prepare for our holiday season. Much of the things we cannot talk about as of yet. we are planning some surprises in the coming year. The political elections are behind us and we set our sites on an exciting new president. already Washington is a buzz with a new energy. It is just such an energy that is magic. It is a feeling, a presence between us all. something that you just can't touch on. Sometimes you will hear lovers speak that when they first met it was magic. This is something we all share, a hope a feeling and an energy that can be shared. Thats true magic. keep it going this holiday season.

interesting show

the show on saturday was fun. I performed at a Bah mitzvah party for Henri Hoffman. Bah Mitzvas are a great celebration as the family is ready to celebrate after the hard work that leadsup to the young man's big day. But more so this one was even more special as it was held at the historic Snowden mansion. This historic home dates to the late 1700's. I was to perform in the parlor of this magnificent home. For those that dont know the colonial and victorian parlors wer where magic blossomed into the modern era. I set up the show and was waiting for the time to begin. I glanced at the wall at a historical watercolor print depicting George washinton and general lafayette at a party here in Fredericksburg VA. The interesting part of this is that the water color was depicting a party that was held in that house. I would be performing in a place that George partied.
The show was fun because unlike a little kid show when you are working with teen you can have some fun and be a little more relaxed. I was able to present some the best in my bag of tricks to the group. the setting was perfect. I enjoyed the show as much as the audience.
Next big show will be at Lafayette elematary. on december 9th.

The first annual Bikoctoberfest is over and I registered several hundred people for my Magic show Giveaway. I will be drdawing for the free magic show on holloween night at midnight. The Ordanizers where revoloutions Cycles. I use thier store in stafford. This magic show was help at Occoquan reginal park. This is a part of the Fairfax County Park authority 's Parks. Michael Taggert magic shows set up a booth and performed for the attendees for two days. what a great magic show. Lots of childrens entertainment. weVisited woodbridge afterthe show and stoped in a coffee shop in historic Occoquan.

After 25 years as a pro performer, some shows stand out more than others. this weekend added two stand out shows for my memories. first was a wonderfull party Friday night for a lovley family from India. they where celebrating their son's first birthday. Many cultures around the world celebrate the first yaerthat a child is alive with a big celebration because in many parts of the world merley surviving to your first birthday is a miracle. what a wonderfull party Mom and dad wore their best trditional clothes and looked top shelf with their sone who was dressed in white as is the custom. after the show I was invited to enjoy the food that was there. I have had Indian food before but Wow this was Good.
The second show this weekend was a wedding that was held on the grounds of Startford hall. This is the ancestral home of the Lee family that gave us two signers of the declaration of independance and the birthplace of Robert E lee. The Plantation is Still in operation even after 300 years (1738) and is still the home of the Lee's of Virginia. The Mansion is remarkable and pales most in the US. The gardens are massive and the property is never ending. I hope that I will be returning there for shows in the future. I frequently perform My magic show in the Montross, Kilmarnoch Area. Ironicaly The Birthplace of George Washington is just down the road and The Birthplace of Georges mother is also down The road from startford Hall. Much of the area was Initialy surved by Capt John smith and The Virginia company. Yes thei is the land of Pocohantas et al. But the beauty of the mansion all lite up with candles for an evening party was amazing. I dont think our fore fathers could of imagined how pretty the property the left behind would be when well litghted. any way Im starting to ramble. This has been a very Busy month magically I have performed several shows and still have a few on the books for the month. We performed 12 birthday party shows wow! we have some really fun groups coming up as well. I will be at The Northern neck river ride in Kilmarnock VA. I will be performing magic and riding my bicycle also. Once again, is Biketoberfest. I will be performing at 1:30 PM on October 19Th. Stop by the festival and have some fun.

I will be at Lafayette upper elementary school, Fredericksburg Va in December. we will be at First Night Fredericksburg new years eve!( our twelfth year.) Family magic night is October 1 at ring 50. this is a performance night for the ring so family is invited.

My shows the past few weeks have taken me to Williamsburg VA, Westpoint VA, Callo VA, Richmond VA, and Norfolk VA. I have done some great magic and met the most wonderful people. i have also headed up north to Catlet VA, Lorton VA and Quantico VA.

Im back in the office finally after several weeks back and forth with caring for and buring my father. I am Now working on my fallmarketing campian which will include magic shows In Fredericksburg VA, King George VA, The northern neck VA, Including Dahlgren VA, Irvington VA, Kilmarnock VA Glouchster/Mathews VA. . all of these spots have a desperite need for Quality Family entertainment and I hope to bring magic totheir churches schools and community centers. I have already been getting calls for birthday parties there.

James D. Taggert NORFOLK - James D. Taggert, 82, passed away Aug. 14, 2008. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He spent the majority of his life helping others and will be dearly missed. He was born in Freeborn, Minn., to the late Joseph and Catherine Taggert Irvin and was also predeceased by his first wife, Mildred Taggert; a son, James Daniel Taggert; a grandson, John-Michael Taggert; two brothers, David and Joseph; and three sisters, Mary Agnes, Margaret and Catherine. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Honululu (CL48). He was retired from the City of Norfolk as a plumbing inspector and was a member of the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union, Local No. 110, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 3160 and was a longtime member of Christ The King Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Catherine M. Taggert; his five children and their spouses, Jean Marie Thurston (Lou), Patrick Taggert (Dawn), Michael Taggert (Pamela), Kenneth Taggert, and Joseph Taggert (Rebecca); 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Edward, Paul and John Irvin. A Memorial Mass with military funeral honors will be held at Christ The King Catholic Church Thursday at 7 p.m. celebrated by Father Brian Rafferty. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Christ The King School, 3401 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23509. Mid-summers night

The shows at Locust shade Park where fun even in the heat. The first show was mostly day Camper's from the park programs. we had approximately 400 people for the june 26th show. we were able to finish before it got realy hot and then It was off to southern Maryland to meet with my Good freind and occaisional Mentor Eric Henning www.henningmagic.com . eric always has a keen eye and great sense of what is going on. we had a late Lunch as he was just finishing a seminar. after almost three hours of talking business, Eric and I went on our ways. Then when I got home I was hosted to series of emails fromJeff McBride's agent. The show on the 17 was truely one of those magical nights that just make it worth the hastle of performing outside in 90degree plus heat and humidity. The audience was wonderfull and fully engaged in the show. the breeze started to pick up just about show time and had dropped several degrees. The sunset was right in front of me the whole time I was doing my show. This was one of those shows that I was completly ON. those who have worked with me will tell you that these are special nightsfor me and my audience. Those nights when the enegry is at nucler level on the stage.
The summer slow period is almost over I have a llot of shows booked over the next few months so stop by you just may see your name here.

My how time flys by when you least expect it to. I have had a whole string of wonderful magic events the past few weeks. The show at the Stafford Chorale went wonderfully. the chorale did an excellent job and the finale with the song from "Out of Egypt" was perfect. we all got a standing ovation. My Friend and artist Bob Worthy stopped by and took some amazing photos during the show.
I ended them month with a fun wedding show where I presented a special gift from the father of the bride to the new couple. That show was fun because I was a surprise to the entire audience.

I also took some "Me Time" during the month. Jeff McBride The world famous magician and Techno Shaman is very fond of pointing out that The art of Alchemy is about change. In the spiritual sense that change starts internally and spiritually. Last year was the start of my Journey of change. In my Efforts to recover from Peripheral Artery disease, I have taken up Cycling. This past month I crossed Three milestones, First My doctors got all my test reports back with great results. I am showing better numbers than Healthy people. second I rode my bicycle over 50 miles for the first time. The third was the Next weekend I rode 100km ( a metric century)
all of this from a guy that was on the verge of losing his right leg to gangren just a year earlier. I am a fighter and a surviver. I have taken time to refocus on what is important in my life. as a result I am trying to facilitate getting my childrens magic thater up and running. I am facing quite a few herdles. the biggest is real estate that is suitable. I can find lots of retail space but it just doesn't have the feel that I need and the right prices. But I believe in the changes that Im going through and I am open to the world around me more than ever. Today after my sunday ride in the park (a quick 10 miles) I stopped at my favorite Coffeee house (Hyperion Espresso, Caroline Street Fredericksburg VA) and as fate would endeavor. There sitting at the tables with her partner Jack was an old friend Empress story teller and oragmai swami, Megan Hicks. Megan has just returned from a tour in Lima peru where she inspired children with her form of magic. As we chatted, the sublect turned to the theater project and suddenly the ligfht went on that an aquantance of hers is in the process of purchasing an old warehouse in fredericksburg and is open to the idea of a perfomance space.
Im Hoping and have asked for a meeting to hopefully get the ball rolling.
In order to make the magic happen you have to intone the incantation. Translated thjat means that if you want something you have to ask or no knows that you want it.

Finally I went to a lecture at Barry's magic shop the other night. There I got see Jeff McBride perform and hear his lecture. I have seen him several times before and it is always worth going to see him. More to come on that subject.

Coming up I will be at Locust Shade Park, Prince William County VA, on thursday JUne 26th at 10:00 am. this will be a one Hour kids show. I will return on July 17th for an evening show. I Hope to see you there

A new challenge for me

I have been a little stale latley on the creative end. so This weekend I have a challenge that should help. I am performing for the Stafford Chorale Society's annual fundraiser. The event is themed magic and I will be performing my usual antics but to top off the show I will be presenting an illusion with the chorale as the music. Challenging because they do not know the illusion and will see it live for the first time in dress rehearsal tomorrow night. second the music is live. we shall see how it goes. if all is well I will have lots of photos to post if it goes bad I will drink myself back into obscurity.

These photos are from my dear friend Moria who dropped in last Sunday on my performances at the "Folder Library" Washington DC for the 444th annual William Shakespeare Birthday celebration. I was Very honored That I was allowed to perform and see the "reading room" that contains Priceless original Shakespeare manuscripts and other Renaissance era books. the general public is typically not allowed into this private collection. the birthday party is one such acception to the rules. The Library is located adjacent to the Nation congressional library and directly behind the Capitol of the United States.

Several of my friends also performed that day. The Nickel Shake spear girls, Lark song, Mike Rossman, Caryn Henning, hilbee and others were part of the revels on this cold and damp day.

Magi-whirl was a resounding success! I cant begin to thank all ofe the Volunteers who put the event together. Each worked tirelessly too make me look good. I do have to mention just a few of them. First is Bob patterson Co chair of the event. wothout him there would be no event. he keeps the books and the records and the ....... bo is intensely organized and profoundly efficiant.

I also want to Thank Marc Corrion and Reggie Rice for being at my beck and call when I needed them. I have to thank Ashley Taggert for being the stage manager and doing a terrific job. Ken norris was a huge blessing. I also have to thank magician Bob sheets for helping me at the last minute for a token of his ususal fees.

I am persuing opening a magic theater here in fredericksburg. I want to get it open to coincide with the opening of the kalihari water park and the national slavery museum. these two tourist attractions will provide a good base for such a venue. but I need some financial backing to do so. a spring to remember!

I have slowed my shows a bit this past month to focus on producing Magi-whirl 2008. This will be my second year as chairman. I hope we break even on this year. last year was such a huge success Thanks to me calling in a few favors. This year is costing me a fortune in travel and lodging fees. But we will break even on this one. (I hope!)

The show will be great we have some of the best talent in the world coming for this event. we will also be having one of the best conferences the group has ever put together. we have atracted people from as far away as texas and california. we shall see.

On the lighter side I survived the shows booked in February. The shows where coming quite fast at one point and I was getting tired toward the end of the month. I still put on some awesome shows. I goit standing ovation at The Cirkle K Internatiional event. I also had great reviews from The reatil allinace group in Norfolk as well as all the private partues I did this past month.

Enough about me, this is the magic blog!

as I search for that which is magical everyday, I become lost in the world of magical things. I remeber a particularly troubled time in my own life. I was going throug some personal issues that where not going to go away untended. I went for walk one weekend during that time and found my self walking toward thevillage park. I entered the park through an arched entrance that gave the park a feel of entering through a tunnel. as I stepped into the light on the otherside it was as if the world had been recreated on the otherside of that tunnel. Then there as If greeted by an angel a beautifull young lady was busking in the park on guitar. Her song? "Killing me Softly" followed by "Piano Man" (If you have to look those up you are way too young to understand.)

This moment in time lifted the funk i had found myself in. I was renewed and given the boost I needed too make it through. This is the feeling of magic. That moment when everything stops and becomes wonderfull again for us.

There comes around every now and then a few shows that you realy remeber. sunday was one of those shows. As trey, would say I was on! everything clicked for this audience of senior citizens. the event was a 90th birthday for Margarette. I woas hired by her son as a suprise for here. I have not had an audience so into the show so much in years. they enjoyed the show so much i just got emailed video from the show. I will be posting that later. Tommorrow I play circle K international in Fairfax for their annual convention. Im excited!

winter tour heating up

Hello all and yes, I am back performing after a welcome rest in January. February is a ful month and Im still getting calls. I recieved confirmation that I will be at Locust shade park this spring and summer for a series of shows. I will also be in Norfolk at the end of the month for the "About Media Trade Show" I will be performing for the capitol region Circle K convention and a host of private parties. February also touches my heart as The cub scouts celebrate their organizations birthday. The annual awards night is fun and I always give them the best show I can. not to mention it is typicaly a covered dish event so the food is great. I will be performing a special event at The University of Mary Washington In May. This will be to suport the Stafford area Corale society and should be a nice event. this a black tie affair to raise money for teh charities the corale supports.
Finally don't forget about the big Gala show on March 29th. this is a show I produce every year for the international Brotherhood of magicians National Capitol ring 50. The show will be in Alexandria at Bishop Ireton High School http://www.magiwhirl.org/

holiday magic

The holidays have brought an incredible bunch of shows. Ashley and I have performed for an estimated two thousand people since the start of the season in early november. We ended with last nights show at "First Night Fredericksburg" This was our twelth year ther and has become our traditional year end show. we performed three "standing room only" shows audiences exceeded three hundred at each show.
It was good to se my dear friend and fellow magician Trey Cromwell. Trey was working tables at The Blarney Stone Restaraunt and Pub in Fredericksburg. I stopped in for a drink after my shows.
Tommorrow night will be the annual Holiday party for IBM ring 50 in Alexandria and we are looking forward to some great magic and fellowship.
Coming up I have several birthday parties and company banquets coming upin February and March. The we have Magi-whirl 2008 in march. Plans are under way for a short tour down south during the summer. (Call Me Crazy, Alabama in July)

wow I've had a whirlwind tour of the souhteastern half of the state this past weekend.I started with a show on saturday in Hampton for the author Tanya Yvonne (see the link at the side bar.) This fun show was for a book signing of her first book "Alexander" and a reading of her second book "The Line"

I then made it home to just head right back out for a show at the Riverbaot in Colonial beach VA. This was also a fun show for a company christmas party. then I just had time to reload on monday before heading to King George county for their Library's holiday Party. Complete with a Gingerbread house contest.

Tommorrow night i will be a private home in Culpepper VA and a private party on sunday In Stafford. The pre Holiday series wraps up the 15th with a show in Haymarket VA.

After all this, I willl end the year at First Night Fredericksburg. Get your tickets early and arrive early for the show as I usually sell out the three shows of the evening.

the magic of believing in the impossible

We are taught that there are impossible things around us all the time. religions are founded on this belief and wars are fought because of this belief. the truth of believing in the impossible is that we all hope to have something greater than what we have achieved. That perfection, that nervanna, that point of balance where we are one mind body and spirit. In This moment we experience true magic.

Imagine if you will, The possiblility that the trickery that I perform could in fact be real. how would that make you feel inside. would that bring you wonder? What is wonder? I find that I see wonder when I experience that power of nature around us. when I find myself alone with the stars at night and sense that I am but a small piece of the cosmos and accept my place in the that universe as a vital part of it.

I close my show by asking the audience not to think that what I do is real but that it COULD be real. Fon't worry about how could it is but marvel at the beauty of the the snowflake
